Self-Publishing Success Stories

Want to hear some self-publishing success stories? I'm going to tell you about four people who are All Stars in the world of self-publishers. They write different genres, but they all have one thing in common – the ability to publish their own work changed their life for the better.

Top Self-Publishing Success Stories in 2015

Not all of the people became popular and successful this year. In most cases, they spent years honing their craft. Remember, practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to self-publishing.

  • Hugh Howey – If you know anything about self-publishing, you have probably heard this name. Hugh Howey is the current champion of self-publishers everywhere. On his website, he talks about some of the challenges he still faces. Even with fortune and fame from self-publishing, you still need to concentrate on getting the work done.
  • Mark Dawson – While Mark Dawson is a relatively new name in self-publishing (at least for some), you know he's doing something right if Forbes wrote an article about him. Starting from scratch on his own, he has been able to build a self-publishing empire. One of the keys to his success is the simple mailing list, which can be a powerful book marketing tool.
  • Amanda Hocking – The story of Amanda Hocking makes me happy every time I think about it. After trying to get published the old-fashioned way for a long time (like most writers), she was about to give up. On a whim, she published a novel of hers online at Amazon. The rest is history. She is still one of the top-selling self-publishers of all time on the Kindle platform.
  • Andy Weir – Have you seen the new movie by Ridley Scott called The Martian? How can you have not heard about it! Seriously, with Matt Damon in the lead, this is destined to be a huge hit. Weir originally began writing the story on his blog. Readers pestered him enough about getting it on their eReaders that he threw it up at Amazon for a buck, not expecting much. Not soon after he hit publish the first time, the book shot up the charts. The rest is history!

Many other self-publishing success stories can be found online, but the four mentioned above are some of the biggest to date. Learning about how they achieved success can be motivating, especially if you're just starting out as a self-publisher.
